We all love compliments. Yet, how often do we give them? A compliment is an expression of praise and admiration. Complimenting someone shows how much you appreciate their action by recognizing its positive impact on you and others. Giving compliments strengthens connections and increases awareness of the person’s efforts.

While gratitude is a valuable quality that reflects introspection, sharing compliments is even more rewarding because it enhances self-value and worth and improves relationships for everyone involved.

So, let’s make complimenting others a daily habit, just like expressing gratitude every day.
Share a compliment today, on January 1, New Year’s Day. Continue for each day this year. By year’s end, you will have shared at least 365 compliments.

If you don’t get started right away, give a compliment after reading this article.
Mark these two dates in your calendar now to repeat each year. They are great reminders to celebrate and get this habit moving forward:
• Friday, 24 January, is National Compliments Day…

• Saturday, 1 March, is International Compliments Day…

(March 1 is also No Brainer Day. And it should be a no-brainer to compliment someone! LOL!)

Make giving compliments part of your daily journaling of gratitude by adding an entry to acknowledge your compliment to someone that day.

Bonus: Do you have difficulty accepting compliments? I used to. Being of Chinese heritage, I was taught to deflect and reject compliments as a sign of humility. Now, I have learned otherwise and enjoy accepting them.

Here’s an article that shares why: “Do compliments make you feel uncomfortable?” (Also at:

Happy Practicing!
