Lilac season is much too short. Sure, I’m grateful that we have those sweet flowers at all… but I’m still sad their stay is so brief. The purple blooms already came and went this year; how are we supposed to spend a whole three more seasons without their perfect scent wafting through the warm breeze?
Besides appreciating peony season for all its worth, I suppose we can find comfort in lilac manicures. Though not as sweet smelling, they’re a year-round treat that a certain expert in finding comfort, miss Selena Gomez, is happy to serve up.

For a recent appearance on ABC’s Match Game, Gomez rocked her shiny lob (Ashley Ruiz was the stylist behind all that the gleam), a little black Miu Miu dress styled by Erin Walsh, and a gorgeous lilac-colored manicure. Her fingernails were kept long and filed into a rounded almond shape as she clutched her game show cards and let her marquise diamond ring sparkle under the studio lights.

The manicure was the work of the 32-year-old’s go-to nail artist, Tom Bachik. In an Instagram post, the artist offered some special peeks at the look, which he dubbed a “dreamy lilac mani for summer.”
How to Get the Look
Bachik took his usual approach when crafting the manicure. He started with his favorite Tweezerman tool set “for a flawless nail base” before going in with the perfect lilac polish shade: Aprés Nail Official in Aster Family.
If you don’t have a gel setup (never mind the celebrity nail artist!!) at home, you can get a similar look with a regular nail lacquer like Manucurist’s Lisa Lilas or Essie’s Lilacism. Paint a few thin coats on to make sure the polish is fully opaque, then finish things up with a glossy top coat for a gel-like finish.
