The One Thing

Our series The One Thing is a Sparknotes version of the products, rituals, and moments your favorite celebrities and influencers swear by—their go-tos, must-haves, and can’t-live-withouts. So go ahead—take a brief, intimate peek into the lives of your favorites through the things (and people, and moments) they hold dear.

For Coco Jones, 2025 is shaping up to be one for the books. In April, she dropped her long-awaited debut album, Why Not More?, then hit the road a month later for her second headlining tour. As if that weren’t impressive enough, she’s racked up nominations for two Grammys and two BET Awards—cementing her status as one of music’s brightest stars. But Jones isn’t just a powerhouse vocalist—she’s also a seasoned actress. She’s spent the last four years playing Hilary Banks on the Peacock series Bel-Air, wrapping up the fourth and final season this month.

At 27, Jones has already accomplished many of her wildest dreams. But as her album title suggests, there’s always more to experience and explore. That mindset shows up in the moves she’s been making outside of the entertainment industry. Most recently, she stepped into the beauty world to collaborate with The Lip Bar on “The Why Not More Lippies? Limited-Edition Collection.”

On Instagram, Jones talked about the partnership, sharing, “I’ve been obsessed with The Lip Bar since day one…We collabed on four different looks that capture every version of you, from main character energy to soft girl simplicity, and these looks are super pigmented. They’ll last you all day, too, no drama. Whether you’re stepping into the boardroom or stepping into a brunch, there’s a lippie in this collection that gets it.”

Ahead, Jones talks more about working with The Lip Bar, her approach to beauty, and what she hopes listeners will learn from her album.

On Working With a Black-Owned Beauty Brand

“It means so much to me to be partnered with a Black-owned beauty brand. The Lip Bar caters to Black women in a way that, if you aren’t a Black woman, it’s hard to really know exactly what we need. I think that The Lip Bar knows exactly what we need for the different moments in our lives and the different paths that we all take. They make Black women feel very seen.”

The One Makeup Must-Have She Uses Daily

“My biggest makeup must-have is sunscreen primer. I really value sun protection, so that is very crucial to me. And I’d also say a setting powder because I typically get oily.”

The One Way Her Approach to Beauty Has Evolved

“[In] my early career days, my mom did my makeup, and as I got older, I grew a passion for makeup and hair, and started to research and study it on my own. I went from a lack of knowledge to a real passion for beauty, skincare, makeup, and hair.”

The One Hairstyle That Makes Her Feel Confident

“I love a good buss down middle part. But I also have really been into the layered hair, with the blowout curls. They look so effortless and soft. That kind of bed-head with a touch of perfection really eats to me.”

The One Thing She Hopes People Take Away From Her Album

“I hope that they learn that I’m just like them. We all have different paths of life, but we all feel the same feelings, and we all want to be validated in those feelings. Hopefully, they feel a level of connection to me, the person, outside of this whole artist world. I’m just a human being. My job is music, and somebody else’s job would be something else. But we probably experience the same feelings on a day-to-day basis.”
