From Marrakesh to My Farm Table: How Food Has Shaped Me

If I had to trace the roots of my deepest memories, they would always lead to the kitchen—and to the table.

Food, for me, is the most beautiful expression of presence. Of love. Of connection. It’s where etiquette becomes more than knowing which fork to use—it becomes a language of care, intention, and warmth.

And today, I’d love to share a few of the moments that have shaped me. Some took place just steps away, around our farm table. Others unfolded far from home, across oceans and cultures, each experience infusing Manners To Go with even more meaning and richness.

✨ A Kitchen in Médoc, France

From Marrakesh to My Farm Table

In the countryside of Médoc, I gathered with women from around the world—five countries represented, all drawn to the same thing: the joy of cooking and sharing meals together. We were welcomed into Mimi Thorisson’s enchanting home, where we ate fresh bread, heirloom tomatoes, slow-roasted meats, and the laughter of women living fully and freely. I can still smell the rosemary and garlic.

There, etiquette meant something different: it was how we listened to one another, how we honored each dish with attention and reverence.

✨ Marrakesh: Spices and Stories

From Marrakesh to My Farm Table: How Food Has Shaped Me

With Powell and Associates, I stepped into the soul-stirring city of Marrakesh. Every meal was a mosaic of color and flavor. Tagines simmered with saffron and preserved lemons. Mint tea was poured high with ceremony and grace.

What struck me most wasn’t just the flavors—it was the ritual. The way a meal is a moment of honor in Moroccan culture. I took that with me. In every etiquette class I teach, I carry this idea forward: that hospitality and generosity transcend borders. They’re universal.

✨ My Own Kitchen Table

Back home, I often find myself gathered with other women—mentors and new friends who are building lives and businesses with purpose. We talk shop, we dream big, we ask questions, and we listen. We listen deeply.

There’s nothing more powerful than a shared lunch between women. The sparkle in their eyes as they speak of what they’re creating. The comfort in saying “me too.” The elegance of passing the bread with purpose and presence.

Let’s Talk About Your Table

What memories come to mind for you?
A grandmother’s recipe? A dinner that changed everything? A kitchen you’ll never forget?

I’d love to hear your story.
Leave a comment, or even better—share a photo. Let’s create a mosaic of moments that remind us why we do what we do. Why etiquette is not about rules—it’s about relationships.

Why This Matters for Manners To Go

In our etiquette certification program, we’re not just teaching table settings. We’re teaching presence. Awareness. Confidence. And the art of gathering—whether it’s in a kindergarten classroom or a boardroom.

The heart of etiquette lives at the table.
And every time we gather, we create space for belonging.
