Lymphatic drainage isn’t new, but it is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about treatments in the beauty industry. With results you can see and feel, plus long-term effects, it’s not hard to see why it’s so popular. Beyond that, lymphatic drainage treatments are non-invasive, have zero downtime and can improve your overall health. As a longtime gua sha user, I’ve witnessed these benefits for my skin, including a more sculpted appearance. However, as lymphatic drainage treatments for the body became more mainstream, my interest shifted.
Like facials, lymphatic drainage treatments come in many forms. Some require handheld tools. Other forms include manual treatments, which use massage-like movements. There are even high-tech machines designed to treat the body. While the end goal is the same, the methods differ greatly. Ahead, we break down two of the most popular treatments, including what to expect during and after the experience.

What is a lymphatic drainage treatment?
The lymphatic system is complex in its own right. Not only is it part of the circulatory system, but it’s made up of vessels, organs, ducts and nodes. According to celebrity aesthetician, Nerida Joy the primary function of the lymphatic system is to carry nutrients to the blood and toxins from the blood. In that vein, lymphatic drainage treatments are designed to stimulate the body’s lymphatic system and enhance the lymph flow. “The lymphatic system plays an essential role in circulation and natural detoxification,” says Courtney Yeager, founder of The Tox Technique. Through specialized techniques, she explains that treatments help release stagnation and promote flow and a host of physical changes.
The Tox Technique lymphatic drainage treatment
The Tox Technique is a unique method that uses hands-on and customized movements for lymphatic drainage. Yeager explains that the method combines lymphatic drainage with body sculpting movements, allowing for a more tailored and dynamic experience. The customized approach means that results can vary. However, Yeager notes that most people notice an immediate sense of de-bloating, increased circulation and a more contoured appearance. “Lymphatic drainage can support leaving you feeling less sluggish and more balanced and give you a renewed sense of energy,” she adds.
What to expect during your treatment
Each session is designed to be as relaxing as it is restorative. Upon lying on the table, the technician begins a series of rhythmic movements to open up the nodes for drainage, before continuing along the length of your body. The Tox offers several treatments, including 60-minute and 90-minute sessions. Each works to stimulate lymphatic flow, enhance circulation, sculpt the body and treat targeted areas.

I opted for the 60-minute treatment, which included a full-body treatment. Throughout the treatment, I was surprised to learn that no tools were used. The Tox Technique is described as a sculpting-focused method with purposeful movement. While the movements vary in intensity and type, they flow in a natural rhythm, resulting in reduced puffiness and bloating. “Results can last anywhere from days to about a week, depending on lifestyle factors,” says Yeager. She explains that consistency is key to noticeable and lasting impact. After my treatment, I felt significantly lighter and more energized throughout the day and for several days after. “Many clients incorporate lymphatic drainage into their weekly or monthly routines to maintain results,” she says. The Tox also offers a variety of products designed to make practices easier at home. Think dry brushes, tox patches and gua shas.
The Icoone lymphatic drainage treatment
Unlike manual lymphatic drainage methods, Icoone focuses on micro stimulation using its patented Roboderm Technology. “It delivers thousands of multi-directional micro-stimulation actions per minute, providing a more even, precise and deep stimulation of connective tissue and lymphatic pathways to enhance drainage and collagen activation,” says Massimo Lucchesi, export area manager at Icoone, I-Tech Industries. He explains that this results in a stronger immune response, reduced swelling and puffiness, enhanced skin tone and elasticity, relief from heaviness in the legs and an overall feeling of lightness and vitality.
What to expect during your treatment
One thing that makes Icoone unique is its signature white bodysuit. Made of breathable material, it’s designed to protect your skin during the treatment. Once suited up, the practitioner glides the Icoone rollers over your body to deliver the micro-stimulating massage. According to Lucchesi, sessions can last 30 to 60 minutes depending on the targeted areas.
Results and aftercare
During my Icoone treatment, I was informed that the intensity of the machine could be adjusted to my tolerance. While there was some initial discomfort, it subsided as the treatment continued. However, certain areas can remain sensitive throughout—for me, it was my inner thighs. The hour-long session included a full-body treatment which targeted the stomach, arms and thighs. According to Lucchesi, immediate results include a sense of lightness, reduced puffiness and better-defined contours. He notes that results can last for several days after the first treatment and longer with a series of sessions. After finishing my treatment, I felt lighter and noticed that the skin on my abdomen, arms and thighs felt smoother.
For the best long-term effects, Lucchesi recommends scheduling regular maintenance sessions. Many clients go every three to four weeks, or more frequently during a targeted program, he says. However, there are some things you can do in the interim. “Hydration is important to assist lymphatic flow,” says Lucchesi. Staying active with light movement or walking is also recommended to ensure strong circulation.
