My lips are tinted, but they’re certainly not sealed. I would never do that—there’s too much to be said about Tarte’s latest launch.
On May 6, Tarte expanded their beloved Maracuja collection with Maracuja Juicy Lip Tattoo, a three-in-one lip stain, liner, and gloss that allows for countless lip looks while only making you dig through your purse to find *one* product.
Ahead, learn everything there is to know about the long-lasting multitasker—plus team Byrdie’s honest review.
The Inspiration
A peel-off lip stain is fun… the first couple of times you try it. Once the novelty wears off, you start thinking about how lovely it would be to get the look without all of the rigamarole. That’s what Tarte is trying to do here.
“This three-in-one lip stain, liner, and gloss inks lips like a tattoo for the look of a peel-off stain, but no peeling, no pain, and no regrets,” explains the brand.
On one end of your product, you’ll find a felt-tipped stain that you can use to line or fill in your pout. On the other, you’ll see a juicy gloss that looks just as pretty on your nude lips as it does on their tinted counterparts.

The Formula
Over 70% of the gloss’s formula is made up of lip-loving favorites. You’ll find more than ten superfruits on its ingredient list, as well as hyaluronic acid to keep your lips feeling smooth and looking plump. Both sides of the tube also include the namesake maracuja oil, which is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin C.
It’s available in five shades—Rose, a pretty pink mauve; Lotus, a bright pink; Honeysuckle, a berry; Cinnamon Spice, a warm brown; and Peachy Biege, a soft nude—all of which set in 30 seconds.

“Tarte’s Lip Maracuja Juicy Lip Balm in Rose has been my go-to lip product for years. It is the perfect pop of petal pink for someone who is otherwise scared of lipstick. I typically prep my lips with a liner and then go in with the balm on top. The new Maracuja Juicy Lip Tattoo is the perfect marriage of this two-step routine. I used the lip stain side to outline my lips for subtle definition. Then, using the brush on the opposite end, I was able to apply my favorite rose gloss. It has the same hydrating feel and lasting pigment I know and love, but takes up less real estate in my purse—every girl’s dream.”

“I won’t bury the lede: I love this. It does exactly what it claims, delivering long-lasting color that doesn’t make you sacrifice comfort for wear time. The lip liner reminds me of the markers we used in elementary school (without the artificial fruit scents, or any scent, for that matter), making it super easy to line your lips and fill in the color. The gloss isn’t sticky, goopy, or gross. And best of all, it stayed through my entirely-too-many coffees surprisingly intact. I’m in the shade Honeysuckle here, but get ready to see me in many other shades in the near future!”

“I love lip stains in theory, but they always apply blotchy on my dry lips. Tarte’s pen format made it so easy to line and fill in my lips with no patchiness. The shade Peachy Beige is definitely more of a statement brown on my skin tone, but it will be perfect as a no-fade lip liner moment in the future. I also really love the gloss formula—it’s non-sticky and so so moisturizing and comfortable.”
